Hi Malton. Firstly, I just wanted to let anyone reading know that I tried finding a clinic that had a decompression table in the UK about 6 months ago and couldnt find any. Perhaps the situation is different now but it seems as thought this technology is taking its time to go across the pond. Secondly, I wanted to thank you for the exercises you prescribed as the first weeks treatment program to correct my high and forward pelvis syndrome before correcting my neck. The lower back pain has gone and I am already standing straighter than before. Big thanks!

Dear Malton,
This exercise looks great, but the thing I always worry about is that I've had a complete hip replacement on both my hips, and I'm always terrified that I'm going to dislocate one or both of them.
After the replacements (10 years apart) one leg has ended up 3cm shorter than the other, which I'm sure is putting my back out all the time. I use a stick all the time, and hate it. I'm now in a vicious cycle of not doing too much because of the pain, and not doing too much causing more pain. I'm lost in all this. I so need some advice, but can't afford physiotherapists, and though here in Australia if one is on a Pension (I am) medical treatment is all free, but . . . . . . . . there can be up to a two year waiting list for specialist doctors, physios etc. My problem is considered very minor (they should be ME!), and consequently I'm just offered more and more painkillers - right up to morphine. No thanks - I had drug problems in my youth, and am NOT going that route again.
If you feel you could help this chronic pain (I'm a young 64!) I'm willing to get your course, but if you feel you can't help me I can't afford anything that will not do me some good, at least.
Thank you so much for the way you help people, and for all the advice on your site that you provide free. This makes me feel I can trust whatever you might decide in my case.
Sorry for the long-windedness, but of course it's ME I'm writing about, and often I feel no-one understands that it TRULY does hurt to do almost anything - I'm fed up with the "just get up and do it" approach from so many people, they DON'T understand.
Yours most sincerely,
Leah.

I tried your exercise of the psoas muscle and found that it was indeed tight. BUT I also noticed that even kneeling in the initial position put a burn on the thigh of the leg that was kneeling on the floor. I am having much problems with thigh, hip and back of the knee pain during the night, often awakening me. I am trying to discover what exactly is going on, so I am trying different stretches.
Are there some that are better than others?

I have spoken with you before. I have had the 3rd MRI come back witht he same results, a herniated disc...L5-S1
I have tried chiroprator, tens, rack, medications even nerve blockers, accupuncture. I am waiting to see a neuro surgeon. Workers Compensation has sent me back to work and for physio until I get an appointment with a neuro surgeon. Today was my first day at physio. The first thing she put me on was a bike for 20 minutes. I told her that I was in a lot of pain and that I have a saddle bum. She then took me to a chair and had me use two things to get more muscle in the lower leg. I am in a lot of pain tonight. I am to go back on Friday and she said that I will be working out for 1 1/2 hours. my first question is ...is the bike a good thing to start off with especially with no warm up exercises or anything. I am back at work on a graduated return to work. WCB has restrictions on what I can and cannot do at work. I am to sit for 1/2 and hour then stand with a desk that rises for 1/2 hour to do my computer work. I find it strange that with all the restrictions that I have at work that the phyio would have me ride a bike for 20 minutes or I should say try to have me ride a bike. I could not and when she came back after 7 minutes...I told her that it hurt and she adjusted the seat but I still had pain and especially the saddle seat feeling. Tonight I am in so much pain. I am afraid to go back. I suggested that maybe what I should do is walk on the walking treadle and she said that will come later. My question is ...is this the best way to start off physio...no warm ups right on to a bike when sitting is so hard on my back and legs...??

THANK YOU

Dear Malton,
For the past three months I have had sever sciatic pain on my left side. When I sit for over 20 minutes its almost impossible to stand up because of the pain which runs down the left side of my leg. Once I manage to put my foot on the floor and stand up with lots of pain it finally goes away. I have tried the chiropractor and had accupucture treatment, For the past two weeks I am doing exercises which seem to work for a short time, but the pain still returns every morning when getting out of bed and sitting down. I will try your suggested exercise to see if that makes a difference. Any other suggestions would be sincerely appreciated. Regards, Don
