Of all the alternative approaches to treat back pain, meditation is perhaps the most questioned. There is fairly strong anecdotal evidence to suggest that mindfulness meditation, transcendental meditation, mantra meditation, yoga, tai chi, and chi gong have some impact on chronic back pain.
In an analysis of 813 published studies performed by the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research, no conclusive evidence on the effectiveness on the role of meditation in the management of chronic back pain was determined. These conclusions site the increased use of meditation in the treatment of hypertension, stress, and chronic pain, but stress the need for further research.
A back pain treatment program that does work is the Erase Your Back Pain program. Using this program over the last 15 years, I have been able to successfully treat over 17,000 patients suffering with back pain.
