Sex and back pain is a subject that is often overlooked or not discussed when attempting to achieve some back pain relief. Many people are unable to enjoy sex because they are unable to get into a comfortable position due to their back pain.
To enhance sexual gratification and reduce stress to the spine, be willing to explore different lovemaking positions.
Below are some suggestions for different positions that may be more comfortable for different conditions. Be creative and enjoy!
Male with Back Pain:
The male partner with back pain lies on his back with the appropriate support under his head, neck, and legs. The female partner without back pain is on top and takes a more active role.

Female with Back Pain
The female partner with back pain lies on her back with the appropriate support under her head and back if needed. Her hips and knees are bent over her partner, who is lying on his side and facing her.
These positions are safe if you’ve been diagnosed with sciatica, stenosis, herniated disc, or following surgery.
As you and your partner begin to explore ways of making sex more enjoyable, remember to take your time, be gentle, and be safe. Remember that back pain does not have to interfere with sex if you communicate openly and are willing to try different positions.
