Back Pain: 3 Factors That Contibute To Slower Healing

Back Pain

is a condition that affects as many as 30 million people at any given time. And, while the majority of back pain can be treated relatively quickly, lifestyle habits can contribute to slower healing. Cigarettes, coffee, colas, and alcoholic beverages are irritants to pain receptors and nerve pathways of the body. As a result, increased consumption of these substances will slow the healing response of the body. Here’s how…

Caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol constrict blood vessels, which interfere with proper circulation and oxygen consumption to the healing body tissues and slows down the repair process. Back pain relief, therefore, takes much more time.

Refined sugar interferes with good calcium and other mineral assimilation and metabolism, and it can affect strong bone structure formation and wound healing capabilities. Sugar also causes the slowing of blood flow, which interferes with good capillary circulation and oxygenation of tissue, thereby preventing healthy tissue regeneration.

Increased phosphates in the diet (cola drinks, red meat) interfere with good calcium absorption and utilization, thereby preventing good bone structure and healing.

One of the side effects of ingesting these substances is poor muscular coordination. The proper timing of muscular contraction/relaxation is essential for restoration of spinal joint movement and prevention of future injury.
