"Here’s a few back pain statistics compiled by the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) you might be interested in.
Over the past 3 months, approximately 59.1 million adult Americans have experienced a back pain episode.
Of those American adults experiencing back pain, approximately 7.1 million report that their back pain limits their ability to function.
Compare these numbers to the 27 million American adults who have degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis) and I think you can see that back pain is considered by many to be an epidemic in American society.
Yet despite the overwhelming numbers of people suffering with back pain, controversy continues to exist over its origin.
In a 2008 study reported in the Journal of Arthritis and Rheumatism, the researchers indicated that the origin of back pain is often unclear but probably is related to changes in muscles and ligaments or degenerative changes in the disc and vertebrae.
Ask a hundred doctors what the underlying cause of back pain is and you’ll get a variety of answers ranging from muscle weakness, to a slipped disc, to arthritis. That’s because most doctors only focus on what they see and not what caused the problem in the first place.
I approach back pain differently. I take several steps back and focus on what started the problem in the first place.
That means I look at how the muscles that support the back function. What I find, in most cases, is that these muscles tend to be out of balance, meaning that one muscle is tight and the opposing muscle is weak. And, once rebalanced, people will feel better and be able to do more without pain.
The beauty of this approach is that you can do this yourself. Find out how here ==> No More Back Pain!
