Epidural steroid injections (ESI) are often prescribed for back pain relief. I tell patients that an ESI is used for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes and is an excellent way to determine whether or not surgery is indicated.

i recently just had a steroid injection between l4&l5. the back pain went away for about 3 days but came back after i went back to physical therapy and traction. should i resume pt or relax for a little

Make sure you’re getting the epidurals no more than 14 days apart to take maximum advantage of the anti inflammatory effects. If PT triggers pain, then I would modify activities.
