"In my assessment of over 20,000 patients suffering with sciatica and back pain over the last 26 years, I can easily place most of them into one or a combination of 4 common conditions.
I’ve prepared a short video for you that explains these conditions and may help you determine some of what may be causing your back pain or sciatica.
I hope you enjoyed this video as much as I did putting it together for you. Hopefully you may now have some clue as to why you’re experiencing sciatica, herniated disc, stenosis, or any number of other back pain conditions.
I’d love to hear what you have to say. So, if you’ve got a comment or question about sciatic nerve pain, bulging disc, spinal stenosis, or any other back pain related condition, just fill in the form below and I’ll be back to you in a jiffy.
Dedicated to Erasing Your Sciatica & Back Pain,

this informatiom and the video is amaising and useful, although I can not recognize what kind of syndrome I have. The situation Im facing now is a wrong surgery of herniated disk (L4-L5 and L5-S1) that produced a permanent sciatic pain on my right leg. It seems that during the surgery my sciatic nervous got irritated
Since the last 2 years I had taken a lot of different treatments without results ( Accupunture, fisiotherapy, massages, anestesy , medicines etc) Im very interesting to now if you can provide more specific information about SCIATIC PAIN and how to relief this because is seriously affecting my life . How can I have an appoitment directly with Dr malton?
Thanks in advanced
Dear Sir,
I have watched your video & wonder how you could help me. After having 3, nasty car accidents & a nasty fall down a hill, I have been plaqued with lower back pain ie: sciatica for the last 5yrs now. It all started for me when i was sent to see a Orthopaedic Specialist he advised me i had disks pressing on nerves & he recommended that epidurals started. In the early stages of it , i was advised to try to exercise as much as possible which i did whenever & wherever i could. After 5yrs the pain has gradually got worse & where the Epidurals were helping me & lasting me up to nearly 4mths before having another one, now they are only lasting 2 & a half to 3mths, plus the fact the Pain Management Surgeon that i had built up trust & confidence with is now leaving Pain Management to go into doing Ceaserian Sections & Obstetrics babies & children. & has transferred all his patients over to another Pain Management Surgeon to whom i know nothing about or him me. I suppose if i was paying privately to see this other Pain Management Surgeon he would be more than pleased to see me as money speaks volumes. For the last 6wks before the next Epidural is due i am at screaming point with it. from having it in one leg it transfers itself over to the other leg. It comes on every night when generally i have been shopping & been on the move during the day i dont get any relief whether i am sitting standing or walking the only relief i can get is to go to bed sometimes at 6oclock in the evening which means i cannot even enjoy an evenings viewing on the TV, & then generally fall asleep. Infact quite often is the case i dont even have the time to get my insulin in as i am a diabetic or have a meal before having to retire to bed. & just before i have the Epidural its coming on during the day aswell. Now they are telling me not to try & fight it & have to take to me wheel chair to get around. Thanking for reaidng this. I would appreciate if you could help me as i am at my wits end with I have tryed Psiotherapists Tens machines a whole host of pain killers.
Yours sincerely
Christine Chesworth.
Unfortunately the video you sent today stops every 2 seconds so I cannot follow what you are saying.
The pain I have is in my lower spine travelling down the front and outer side of my right leg and into my groin with severe tingling and numbness of skin.
I do not know if this is Sciatica as I have no symptoms down the back of my leg. Walking is no problem - it is sitting and lying down which is causing so much pain.
I teach Physical Education so am a very active person.
Help!!!
Hi Malton.. Thank you . I have been doing as you indicated in your videos, and have now been left with only an acute pain when i am seated ,it is somewhere in the centre of the hamstring. Is there a special excercise for that area or does the present exercises eventually eradicate this section. as well ?
Regards Ian

I am 50years of age and now go for walks and play golf. However with this pain iam not very active now a days(for the last three weeks) . Maintaining a standing posture and walking are problematic. From your description, I’d say that your psoas muscle is tight causing a forward pelvis. Very common with golfers. My program could definitely help you if this is what you’re dealing with.
Le me know if I can help.
Ian,
Yes, continue to do the exercises as described and the pain should begin to lessen in the hamstring area.
Let me know if you have additional questions.
Paddy,
Sounds like a case of entrapment of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve. Try stretching the psoas muscle as it can cause these types of symptoms.
Let me know if i can help.
Hi. I am Brenda, I have a pain and discomfort in the right hand buttock and there weakness and pain in the right leg muscles. I have had all kinds of test and it seems I have two disc’s at the lower part of the spine that is about the 3rd & 4th vertabra. The C.T. Scan shows the soft part of the spine (would that be the disc ?) has moved toward the spinal cord and not away. The pain I have is in the buttocks and sometimes it is all over the lower back area. So I am not sure what this is called but I am sure the siatica nerve is involved. The point being I am not sure which of the back problem on the vidio is the right one.
Sorry it so long winded
Brenda
Got a disturbing pain in my right legs, done a IRM, found compression of my nerve due to a slight slipped disk.
This happened 2 months ago and I can’t do my sports properly…..to be honest, I stopped them compleytely.
i was doing 3 times a week joggings - 7 to 10 kms.
Do you think it’s safe to jogg again? I really need it…
Christian,
If you’re not having any weakness and the pain has subsided, then you should be able to gradually resume your normal activities.
That being said, however, we should probably talk so that I can get a clearer picture of your symptoms.
Thank you so much for sharing with me the different kinds that causes back pain.Although I don’t understand much.My low back pain has been 6 months from now.The pain is from left hips low back down to my left legs. The pain is continues till now.I have been to my rehab doctor. He said slipped disc.I went also to P.T for rehab.they teach me exercises and I am doing it but still pain is there. The doctor also prescribe me pain relievers. Please teach me some exercises that helps my low back pain disappear.Thank you.God bless and more power to your ministry./Dolor
My chiro Dr revealed x-rays that showed my left hip higher than the right. After many chiro treatments, It seems as though I have a locked-in muscle pattern that does not correct
I experience burning sensations below the left hip in the buttocks and down the upper left leg. I assume this is sciatic nerve pain due to the locked muscle pattern.
I would be grateful for your advise. Thank you.
Dear Mr. Schexneider,
Good day!
I am a Filipina, 43 years old. I’ve been suffering from my sciatica pain for almost two years now. I have seen a couple of physical therapists, chiropractors and orthopedic doctors but the pain doesn’t seem to go away.I had my MRI test last month and the impression was medium-sized left paracentral disc herniation at L5-S1 level with compression of the left thecal sac and S1 nerve root and broad based posterior disc protrusion at L4-5 with flaval hypertrophy and relative lateral nerve recess narrowing. I used to play a lot of tennis but my therapist ask me to rest for a while and do swimming and pilates exercises instead. I am scared resorting to surgery. Please help me!
thank you,
Louella

left shoulder has pain in the joint or around it , maybe the cuff. also chiro. has said i have a tilted pelvis . adjustments were made but my whole body feels out of line now. mainly sore left hip, rear lower left leg muscles. and popping and numbness in the middle of my back, any comments would be appreciated.
My chiropractor says my symptoms are indicative of periformis syndrome. Your video suggests forward leaning pelvis. My question is are their specific exercises to help the periformis muscle to stop the pressure on my sciatic nerve as I am in constant pain in the buttocks and legs for the past 2 weeks. can this malady be cured or at 70 do i have to live with it for the rest of my days.
Dear Malton
I am 68 years old and live in Scotland.
Thanks for the video. I have two queries.
I’ve been diagnosed with chronic lumbo sacral and sacroiliac strain with generative change. I am doing pelvic floor exercises and wonder whether that can have a negative impact.
What is the best way of putting socks and shoes on with back pain?
Look forward to hearing from you.

Rena
The video was very informative. I think it will help a lot of people assess which syndrome they fall into. This video really nailed it on the head about the four common distortions when it comes to causes for lower back pain/sciatica. Thank you for providing such valuable information where people can really take responsibility for their own health care and learn some simple things to do to help themselves.
i have a herniated disc in the l4 l5 region in the lower back and mild spinal stenosis..im 34 and have had this off and on for quite some time now…im off and on to physical therapy and am going now again…i take muscle relaxers and ibupoferon when needed…my main complaint is a stiffening and achiness in the lower back and a sharp needling pain on the left side of my side…what can i do to relieve some of my pain..?

Thanks for the free video….it made a lot of sense. I am 59 years old and I am having severe pain walking and going into the sitting position. The pain gets so bad after 5 minutes of walking that it shoots down the back of my right leg and my whole right thigh goes numb and I experience tingling in my right foot. I have a MRI scheduled shortly. The pain also happens if I stand for longer than 15 minutes. I just retired and now feel like I will never walk , golf, or exersize normally again.
Do you think I will ever be able to live pain free……
Judy
Have developed “Costochondritis”symtoms in both sides of ribcage
for over a year. Also am very sore collorbone, side to side, and up to
jaw line; especially on right side, down the shoulder; More so after
sleeping on my left side. Also, have from time to time, have a pain
on my left side, lower back, behind my hip bone, that I have the
chiropractor adjust so I can walk normal and put on my jeans. I’m
only 53, been active in team sports until about a year ago. About then
I developed lung nodules, benign, Costo symptoms and all these
other things. Been trying to just survive; Any help would be greatly
appreciated. I also have Sleep Apnea and am 30 to 40 LBS over-
weight.
i have low back pain only when airconditioner on i the bus or in the train or if its cold autside if the window is open and cold air blowing inside its rightaway effects my lowback.i beleive it happened after sex i got infection with the cold on my lowback since then cold brings back the pain.
Hi Malton,
I have watched the video you sent me but I am not sure which one of the four conditions my symptoms would come under. I have been told that it is the start of sciatica. The pain starts in my left buttock and radiates down past my knee. It is not a problem during the day although I feel it slightly some days when I go for a walk. When I lie down at night it is quite severe. I have had spinal xrays but they showed nothing unusual, just a bit of wear and tear due to age (51) and the work we do (cattle grazier).
Could you please tell me which one of the syndromes this would come under so that I know which lot of exercises to do. Thanks!
My problem started 2 years ago. I suddenly developed weakness and discomfort on my right leg (dificulty managing stairs, getting up) tablets prescribed worked and I forgot all about it. Just over a month ago, I felt a numbness on my right leg which I ignored as it dissapeared after a week or so. Then I had back ache (I thought it was due to some forced rest when I had an attach of sinusitis) it then affected my right leg and once the pain was so intense I thought I would pass out. Ibuprofen 400mg given by the chemist helped unitl I went to see my doctor who prescribed some anti-inflammatory tables and some exercises which helped but I tried given up the tablets and the pain returned. This time is more around the calf and my foot tingles at times. Any suggestions as to what exercies might help? I have been doing knees to the chest and the camel and the cat and the dog and they have helped but I still have to take the tablets..
Many thanks
Ruby
When I get out of bed in the morning and walk to the bathroom I gradually get more and more pain in my lower back and upper thighs. Sometimes I only have a pain in my lower calf and no back pain. It seems I have one or the other. I used to exercis a lot but the other day I was on my all fours and couldn’t get up as the pain was so bad. If I take Bayer backand body I seem to get better as the day goes on but I am aftraid of taking so much aspirin.
I watched the video and found it quiet interesting. I have lower back pain, and a bit of a curved spine. somedays its ok and other days its present where I can’t sleep on my back I have to switch
positions quickly. I also had polio when I was a child and have one leg a bit shorter than the other. could this be part of my back pain that I am experiencing. also a few years ago I fell on my tailbone on some ice in the winter time. could that be contributing to my back pain as well. Sometimes my back pain feels like its aroung the kidney area. I rub my back everynight so I can get a good nights sleep. Could I have arthritis in my lower back. I have it in my left knee and in my left hip.I really don’t know for sure what is causing my back pain. but someday I hope it will get better. I hope you can answer some of these questions i mentioned. thankyou.
